Corn hasn’t been a daily staple in our household and has been more of an exotic treat to nibble on occasionally. But honestly, after trying this easy grilled corn recipe, it’s definitely one of the best things you could ever put on a grill!

We love grilling. In the summer, we spend most of our evenings grilling and enjoying quality family time outdoors.
I won’t claim to be a master griller, or well, let’s be honest, I’ve hardly ever grilled anything in my life, and I’m not really good at it.
My spouse, on the other hand, is a complete grill guru (interesting, why are men usually the grill masters?). Therefore, grilling nights are always a peaceful time for me to focus on setting the table and making salads.
When my husband made grilled corn for the first time, I was extremely skeptical about it. The result was, naturally, incredibly delicious, and you could even say it exceeded all expectations.
Here, we’ve compiled our experiences on how to grill corn the best way, but most of the credit for this recipe goes to my sweet husband.
Making Corn in the Oven
Corn on the cob can be excellently baked in the oven as well. The entire preparation process is the same as when grilling.
After seasoning the corn, bake the corn on the cob at 200°C (390°F) for 10-15 minutes, turning them occasionally so all sides brown evenly.
This way, you can bake a delicious snack with less effort when you don’t have a barbecue planned.
FAQ
How does grilled corn taste?
Simply salted grilled corn has a very balanced taste with the natural sweetness of the corn, added salt, and smoky flavor – it’s surprisingly good. You can also add other interesting flavors to the corn.
Why does the corn have too smoky a flavor?
Most likely, the grill was smoking too much. The grill shouldn’t smoke excessively while you’re cooking food on it.
How to get corn kernels off the cob?
The easiest way is to cut them off with a knife. But it’s also very enjoyable to just grab the cob and eat it directly.

Ideas and Tips
Corn goes great with homemade regular mayonnaise.
If you prefer, you can skip the butter. We’ve also grilled it with just salt.
Although it’s much easier to grill corn on a grill grate, you can actually grill it over an open fire on a stick without any special equipment.

Grill Preparation
If you’re using an electric or gas grill, just turn it on and set it to the appropriate temperature. If you’re using a traditional charcoal grill, it requires a bit more effort.
Grilling with Charcoal
- Spread the charcoal evenly across the bottom of the grill. Depending on the size of the grill, you’ll need different amounts of charcoal, but generally, fill about a third of the bottom with charcoal.
- Light the charcoal. The more evenly it burns, the better. You might want to ignite it from multiple points.
- Let the charcoal burn with large flames. If the flame starts to die down, gently blow on the coals to stoke the fire.
- The coals are ready when they no longer have flames but are glowing intensely.
- If necessary, stir the coals to ensure they’re evenly distributed.
Grilling with Wood
- Grilling with wood is similar to charcoal, but you first need to burn the wood down.
- Stack the wood vertically in the center of the grill and light it.
- Stir the wood to ensure even burning.
- If the fire starts to die down too soon or isn’t catching well, gently blow on the wood to encourage the flame.
- The coals are ready once the wood has completely burned down, there’s no open flame, but the coals are glowing strongly.

Grilling corn
- While the grill is heating, mix salt, spices, and butter or oil in a small bowl.
- Coat the corn cobs thoroughly with this spice mixture.
- Place the corn on the hot grill grates, preferably in the center and close together.
- Put on the grill lid and cook corn for about 5-10 minutes, turning them a few times during cooking.
- The corn is done when it turns golden brown and has grill marks on the sides.
- Remove the corn from the grate and let it cool down. In my opinion, grilled corn tastes best when it’s cooled down a bit.
- You can eat the corn directly off the cob or scrape the kernels off with a knife onto a plate.
